Bug Description
I noticed that MiniDLNA was deleted from 14.04 - https:/
Is there a plan to release package for 14.04 or MiniDLNA will not be supported anymore?
Thanks!

minidlna (ReadyMedia) 1.1.2 does support libav9

Dropping minidlna is especially bad since there is no proper replacement. ushare is rather buggy.

And I suspect it didn't 'make' because gettext is a dependency that is not tested in configure. after sudo apt-get install gettext, make succeeds.

Workaround provided by Clickbg in the Ubuntu Forums. I had to install libid3tag0 as well (edit below).

sudo dpkg -i libavutil51_
sudo dpkg -i libavcodec53_
sudo dpkg -i libavformat53_
sudo apt-get install libid3tag0
sudo dpkg -i minidlna_

Have you tried ums (Universal Media Server)?
| Dagaz (dagaz-r) wrote : | #7 |
I tested ums yesterday and today. Its .... hmmmm .... OK. At least for the Tablet.
The problem is the reding thing. I do not want my videos to be recoded for my TV. Then i really want a full HD with full quality.
Additionally some devices seems to have a problem that every file is shown as an mpeg file. Also with minidlna I can predict what file will or won't be hardware decoded on my tablet.
In my opinion ums is not really a real alternative to minidlna but a good extra to have.

I've created a PPA to provide a cleaner workaround and a much fresher minidlna version (1.1.2).
All thanks must go to Debian packaging work already maintained by Benoît Knecht at https:/
To install:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:djart/minidlna
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install minidlna
I hope you'll find it useful, version 1.1.2 is much better than 1.0.24. It would also be nice if an Ubuntu developer picks it up and adds it back to the official 14.04 repo.

Great Thanos, your PPA certainly saved me a bit of a headache.
| Filiprino (filiprino) wrote : | #10 |
I wonder why they took minidlna out of the repository.
Same goes for binaries like findkeyboard.

MiniDLNA is back in Debian Sid (unstable). Is there anything we can do to re-sync it back in 14.04 or at least for 14.10 ?

I requested a sync, so it's sitting in the NEW queue for Utopic. It won't go into Trusty without a backport. Please use the requestbackport tool from ubuntu-dev-tools to request one once minidlna is in Utopic.

@Rory, are you sure minidlna is now available in Trusty? or you installed it from ppa:djart/minidlna ?
Here is how mine looks...

Yes. It is in Trusty (backports). https:/
Have you enabled the backports repo?
| Sezer Yalcin (sy-y) wrote : | #19 |
I don't see this coming through trusty-backports. Installed manually.
