Bug Description

i boot arm-device with serial console in minicom (started inside of gnome-terminal). if i scroll back via gnome-terminals scrollbars, output of minicom will be "diced". this does not happen with output of gnome-terminal alone, only with minicom-content

any idea here? maybe it is caused by gnome-terminal and scrollbar-handling (reducing inner width)?

it looks like it's more an issue of gnome-terminal, because the inner-width is smaller while scrolling. Tested with git output which reaches right border of terminal window, while scrolling it will be wrapped to next line. afair in 18.4 i had modified scrollbars to be always visible (not fading in if cursor is over border)...maybe this bug is older and i noticed it now only in fresh 20.4 without the visibility change (don't remember how i did)

based on http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2019/09/make-scrollbar-always-visible-ubuntu-18-04/

i tested this:

GTK_OVERLAY_SCROLLING=0 gnome-terminal &

i see scrollbar and content is not wrapped while scrolling
