mgp magicpoint hangs with black screen on start

When launching the packaged example slideshow the shown screen is black.

The 'top' program says the processor is 88% occupied by the mgp process (and 99.7% altogether).

When using an mgp file without a single line of text - just two directives:
%page
%back "white"
It renders as a white screen and does not hang out the processor.

I had a similar experience with http://oops.ghostprotocols.net:81/acme/perf/perf.mgp. Screen went black, music started stuttering, hard drive started really working. My screen eventually entered standby mode and I had to restart X from the console.

In a similar vain, I just uploaded mgp 1.13a+upstream20090219-9 and would like for you to see whether this still occurs for you.
