Bug Description

When pressing Alt+tilde it's supposed to change between the windows of the same application. However it does not do it if there are more than 2 windows of the same application are open. It's broken in both Oneiric and Precise.

It's actually Alt+` (backtick), or rather it's Alt+$the_key_over_tab, and it works here (it's a metacity feature, btw). There's some more information that will help:

- keyboard layout
- character given by the key in a terminal / text editor
- xev output when pressing that key

affects: unity-2d (Ubuntu) → metacity (Ubuntu)

For me the keys are working. The issue is that it does not cycle through all of the windows. Only the previous window is available. If you have more than two windows opens they will have an icon in the popup, but you can not get to them. You can only cycle between window #1 and #2.

Even worse, when cycling back to window #1, it is not outlined, and the popup dissapears. It is very confusing. It sort of makes sense in that you are back to an unchanged state, but that is not what Alt-tab does. Alt-tab will outline window #1 and leave the popup until the Alt key is released, so I expected Alt-` to do the same.

Michał: As Jon also mentioned it is "half working" so I don't think the keyboard layout and the other information you asked are important. However I'm using Hungarian keyboard layout and the key above tab is 0 (zero).

So are you saying that if you are using unity-2d and have 3 nautilus windows open you cycle thru them with alt+key_over_tab just fine?

Since Unity-2D will be discontinued there is no point in keeping this bug report open. Also in Unity (3D) there is no problem with this.

Won't Unity-2D be supported for the lifetime of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS?

Do you really think they will keep developing it? The whole point in dropping its support is to have less workload on the developers. But OK, I'll reopen it anyway...
