Bug Description

Binary package hint: metacity

When using Metacity + compositing in Ubuntu Jaunty, I can't manage to work more than 1 hours without getting display corruption or artifact. Those artifact seams to appear randomly and disappear when the windows or screen are invalidate.

The following attachment file present a screenshot of the screen. I guess it's the best way to explain the problem.

ProcEnviron:
 SHELL=/bin/bash
 LANG=en_CA.UTF-8
SourcePackage: metacity
Uname: Linux 2.6.29-02062903-generic i686

Thanks for the report, do you get the same with compiz? it looks like a video issue, which video card and driver are you using? Could you attach your xorg.conf file to the report? Thanks in advance.

Using Compiz, I don't see any artifact.

My video card is a Radeon Mobitility X300 (M22). At this time I'm running radeon-rewrite driver (because it's more responsive). Other than that, I have the problem with what ever radeon driver I'm using.

I've been trying to diagnose an annoying display problem with my Radeon Mobility 7500c. I have a bug open at Freedesktop.org, but it just occurred to me today to consider compositing as a factor along with the driver.

See https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22256
for attachments and screenshots.

I wonder if there's some unfriendly interaction between compositing software and some Radeon Mobility chipsets?

I turned off compositing earlier (at least, I think it's off now), and my display seems better so far. It's too early to say for sure, unfortunately.

 I thought it might be helpful to cross post this information if the issues are indeed related. I hope this may be of use.

As Emily Litella often said, "Never mind."

My particular issue appeared to be a hardware failure after all.

Now, carry on!
