Bug Description

Binary package hint: vlc

Switching to full screen does not work properly when there are programs set to "Always on Top".

Tested using: vlc (0.8.6.release.e+x264svn20071224+faad2.6.1-0ubuntu3) with wxWidgets interface in ubuntu (gnome) 8.04

How to reproduce:
1. Open a program of your choice
2. Right click on the title bar of the window of that application and choose "Always on Top"
3. Play a movie in vlc
4. Switch vlc to full screen mode (e.g., double click on the movie playing)
This will result in the movie playing in the back while the program started in 1 is still on top and the gnome panels are still visible.

While this could even be considered a feature this is especially unnerving when vlc is the "Always on Top" program (see attachment).

This behavior was not present in ubuntu 7.10.

I can confirm this. It could be fixed through enabling compiz but this is among other things not such a good idea on slower computers. Maybe it is a Metacity bug too.

There is a trick to work around it. After activating full screen click on the grey vlc window and then outside of it on the video output. After that video should be on top.

I guess this is a duplicate of Bug #19728.
