Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

On current Hardy gnome (1:2.20.2ubuntu1) terminal (2.21.91.1-0ubuntu1) reappears unexpectadly when you run it in full screen.

How to reproduce:

1.) start a gnome-terminal

2.) put it to full screen by pressing the appropriate hot key

3.) do no minimize it, but start OpenOffice.Org Spreadsheet (Calc)

4.) click on the button with an arrow on it for displaying a color picker widget for selecting "Font Color"

5.) the full screen gnome-terminal window should appaer on top of any other window/widget

6.) if you switch back to openoffice, the widget is there where it should be

Workaround is to avoid using the full screen mode, instead setting the window properties of gnome-terminal with devilspie to have no decoration and maximum width and height.

Thanks for your report, that's not reproducible here, are you using Compiz? Does it happens without it? Can recreate the same isue with a new user created on your system? thanks.

Compiz is disabled.

It is reproducible for me not just with a different and new user, but also one a different machine.

Maximazing the window can happen through pressing F11 or the system-wide hotkey for this.

The window of gnome-terminal should left in full screen mode, and shall not be minimized.

Not just OOo, but also interaction with other programs are able to cause the sudden reappearing of the full screen window. (But this is the only one that works always for me.)

If OOo is also in full screen, nothing happens. But works both in maximazed and in normal state.

can you still reproduce this?

sibidiba (sibidiba) wrote :

Yes I can.

Although using compiz the bug disappears.

Pedro Villavicencio (pedro) wrote :

With same steps? I'm not able to reproduce this with latest hardy packages, leaving this as new to see if someone else can confirm it , thanks again.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Thanks in advance.

Sadly, yes. It would be still annoying, but I get used not to use terminal in full-screen. Instead devilspie just puts it automatically to a maximaized, undecorated state.

Pedro Villavicencio (pedro) wrote :

may you forward it upstream then since you're facing the issue? i cannot reproduce this, for forwarding instructions please have a look to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME ; leaving this as incomplete until that, thanks.
