Search box out of focus when tray icon clicked

Binary package hint: tracker

I have been using the Tracker tray icon for a couple of days and many times I click it and start writing the search terms right away. I think that the search box should appear selected when you click the icon, and previous searches highlighted, to make searching handier.

It would also be convenient to have the box disappear when you perform a search, e.g. when you enter a search term and hit intro.

Both of that works for me.
When I click the tray icon, the text entry field is selected and after
pressing enter the pop up dialog disappears and t-s-t starts.

Weird, it does not work here. I am using the latest version in Ubuntu Hardy.

And none works for me. I added some patches but I don't think any of them
affects the applet. Also, I had to remove a couple of build-deps (libunac1-dev,
libqdbm-dev) but they shouldn't affect either.

libgtk is the same as in Debian, 2.12.3-2. Any idea on why this is working for
you (I guess you are in Debian) and not in Ubuntu?

Yes I'm on Debian sid. gtk version is indeed the same 2.12.3-2.

Note that if I enter 'foo' in the applet search box, then close it, and then open it again, 'foo' is selected, but hasn't the cursor input. It should have it.

Works for me. If I search for foo, close it, open it again, foo is
selected. If I then start typing foo is automatically overwritten.

Setting to incomplete until we figure out what's going wrong. Not likely a tracker issue, though, as Michael doesn't have this with an almost similar package.

I'll try with Compiz and with the new metacity to see if this is fixed.

Ok, I've tried compiz and it solves these issues.
However, metacity 2.21.5 didn't.

Michael, are you running compiz, or some kind of desktop effects, or a different
window manager?

 I am the reporter of the duplicate Bug #178376 . I can confirm that this bug exists when running in metacity, but does not when running compiz.

Marking as duplicate of bug 177027 as downgrading to metacity 2.20.0 fixes both bugs.

I marked them as duplicates as I thought this would be the same regression, although I don't have any evidence of it, just that downgrading metacity fixed both issues.

Anyway I'm ok with this being a different bug.

Closing the tracker task as invalid, as this seems to be a regression in metacity. See bug 177027 too.

Bug 177027 is a dup of this one:

Click on tracker-applet, it's opened. If you click outside it, it should be closed. This is what this bug says. But why it isn't closed? Because it isn't focused, due to #176892. If you open tracker-applet, click on the window so it's focused, and then click on your desktop, then the applet will be closed.

Sorry to be slow here, but what's the name of the executable of the tracker applet? I don't seem to have anything on the "add applets" dialogue of this machine (running gutsy) that looks like it would be called that in English. Does this exist only in hardy? I'll upgrade if necessary.

It's actually a notification-area thingy. It's at /usr/bin/tracker-applet on hardy.
