Bug Description

When a window is maximized, there appears a 1-pixel column of white pixels on the very left edge of the screen. These go away if the maximized application draws over them, but reappear if the window is unmaximized and maximized again, or if focus is switched to another window and then back.

System information:
Ubuntu 14.04
LightDM 1.10.1-0ubuntu1
Gnome Flashback (Metacity) 1:3.8.0-1ubuntu12.1
Lenovo Thinkpad T410

I accidentally chose "compiz" as the affected package somehow.

It is a bug in Metacity, it has been fixed in Metacity 3.x (in Ubuntu 14.10). I don't know if there is any fix applicable to Ubuntu 14.04.

I did a bit of sleuth work and traced the issue as far back as the version shipped with quantal (2.34.8-0ubuntu4).
This should probably qualify as a regression, and the range is somewhat narrow (the last unaffected version is 2.34.1-1ubuntu11, which is shipped in precise).

Can someone from the metacity team chime in just to let us know if this issue will (eventually) get fixed in the current LTS? I'd very much like to ditch compiz altogether while still be able to run gnome-session-flashback.

This is basically - Won't Fix, but since I can not set it I will close as Invalid...

In short - there is new LTS available where this bug has been fixed. There is no plans to fix this in 2.34.x.
