Bug Description

Binary package hint: libgnome-window-settings1

Using keyboard shortcuts, I have set a key (F8 in my case) to make the window manager expand the current window to full *height*, leaving the width unchanged.

It recently stopped working nicely: now it expands windows so that the bottom of them is invisible below my lower Gnome panel.
The expand to full height and width function still works fine. The expand to full width function works fine, even if I have a Gnome panel on the side -- ie it expands so as not to overlap the panel. The expand to full height (the one that is broken) does not make an error concerning the top panel, only a bottom panel.

Correct behaviour would be for "Expand vertically" to expand to the full height minus the top and bottom panels.

[Sorry -- I have just guessed at the package.]

Still present in 8.04 final release. There hasn't been any activity upstream wrt this bug since February of 2008. While it may have low importance, it is a rather annoying UI bug if you're used to this feature working normally and use it frequently. Here's hoping there's someone who knows the code and finds the behaviour annoying enough to fix it soon.

Yes, very annoying, for those of us who use extensively every available Metacity window operation bound to various keyboard short-cuts.

the bug is low priority and it doesn't fit the requirements of an SRU (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates) probably if there's another bug that do fit the requirements this could be also included in that update, otherwise you might want to wait until intrepid, thanks in advance.

Looks like this was fixed upstream as 554962 rather than 468075.

A workaround for me was to use gconf-editor to set /apps/metacity/general/action_double_click_titlebar (and action_middle_click_titlebar) to "toggle_maximize_vertically" instead of "toggle_maximize_vert".
