The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly

After some time I began to receive message "The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly" on every attempt to open File dialogue or tab in Dolphin.

This situation first started in kubuntu 9.10 and continued in kubuntu 10.04

Gtk applications work with file system as usual.

If I unload Ktorrent (with lots of torrents uploading) "The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly" is triggered only after several hours. With Ktorrent working 30 minutes - hour usually is enough.

Synaptic launched with root rights tells this on exit:

I have a similar problem:
 * the KDE desktop is not showing icons any more (but the are there, I can click them)
 * I get "The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly" on every attempt to open File dialogue or tab in Dolphin
 * the .xsession-errors is *full* of these lines:

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect 580131 and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
