Various KDE applications do not start: "D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication"

Though the plasma-desktop starts up well some KDE applications refuse to start with the following messages:

The desktop manager in use is KDM. KDE has been installed manually after getting the core system from a Linux magazines lubuntu CD.
