Bug Description

Using the SoundPreferences "Sound Effects" tab I changed the default alert sound to "Glass" (or any other Sound)
Clicking on the selection produces the correct sound.

The selected sound is not played by any other application. (The default sound is still used)
The "default sound" is the same as xkbbell produces.

After logout or restart none of the tested applications (e.g Terminal or Firefox) is using the newly selected sound - the default sound is till played.

This happens with Gnome 3.4 and Gnome 3.6 on about any Debian system (wheezy, Ubuntu 12.10) (64 bit) I've tried.

System: 3.5.0-19-generic #30-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov 13 17:48:01 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The correct behaviour should be that the selected sound will be played on alert!

Please note that this is NO issue with Fedora 17 (Gnome 3.4) , where it works flawlessly.
