Bug Description

This issue is present in gallium drivers from mesa 7.10.x which are in Ubuntu 11.04. Ubuntu 11.10 is not affected, but the fix should be brought in to Ubuntu 11.04.

I have an ATI Radeon 3850. Using the default drivers (xf86-video-ati and gallium for dri), I get lockups within a few seconds of any operation using DRI (compositing, OpenGL, whatever).

The issue is fixed in the meas commit ecc051d65b6e17115439fb3609cccfd59f6272bf on master and should be brought in to Ubuntu to address this lockup. Please see this freedesktop bug for further information.

The fix was cherry-picked into the 7.10 mesa branch. You should just get it if you update to the latest 7.10 git.

Hey jeremyhu,

You filed this bug report against natty, but I see it's still open and
doesn't appear to have much activity recently. So, now that oneiric
is released and stable, this may be a good point for you to upgrade
and re-test if this issue is still present there.

If it's solved in the new release and you think it's worth backporting
the fix, please indicate that. Or if having the fix in the new release
is good enough, feel free to close out the bug (or let us know and we'll
close it.)

If it's not solved, leave the bug report open. I can't promise we'll
get to it (we get way more bugs filed than we can usually get to), but
your testing and feedback can help out if and when we do.

I'm actually not using this card any longer, but at the time I tried, it was working fine with the Oneiric alphas.

I do think it is worth bringing the change into Natty. I made sure that the fix is in the upstream (mesa) 7.10 branch, so you should just get this if you update to the latest mesa-7.10 in Natty. I don't think a 7.10.x release has it yet, so you should just pull in the latest 7.10 changes or cherry-pick this one commit.

Ping, reopen. Your lack of fixing this should not result in it automatically closing...
