Hello. No news about this ? Computer being unusable, should I switch back to 18.04 or buy a new computer ?

It appears this crash has only been reported twice, ever. It's also in an unsupported package (compiz).

If you are using a desktop then I would recommend replacing the graphics card so as to get a different driver. Otherwise please use GNOME (regular Ubuntu).

OK, I installed GNOME and now I get lots of

gnome-shell[7645]: segfault at ... ip ... sp ... error 4 in r300_dri.so
Code ...
rfkill: input handler disabled

or

gnome-shell[7481]: segfault at 7f991550bfc2 ip 00007f991550bfc2 sp 00007ffd203cb958 error 14
Code: Unable to access opcode bytes at RIP 0x7f991550bf98.

in dmesg.

Thanks. That's "good" because it means we can focus on this being just a bug in the Mesa r300 (radeon) driver.

Would you be able to find the details of those gnome-shell crashes? Try these steps: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment

no longer affects: compiz (Ubuntu)

If I could suggest, ubuntu-bug needing a graphical interface, should be good to explain that point 2. is to use if you have only console access.

Thanks. Your gnome-shell crashes are now being tracked in bug 1964430 and bug 1964429.

Again it looks like a problem in Mesa. Hopefully a newer version of Ubuntu will fix them:

  21.10: https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop
  22.04: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ (pre-release)

I tried the 22.04, installation crashed after disk partitioning. I download the 18.04.6 and now everything is back, no more graphical problems, great \o/.

I'll keep this version and blocked the OS version upgrade. Thanks for your support.
