@vanvugt No, but system detect 2 screens https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-390/+bug/1762200

nouveau always been detects 2 screen (primary screen always laptop screen)
but nvidia proprietary driver first time detects 2 screen with 18.04 and primary display is unknown display. (nvidia proprietary was okey with 17.10 and previous versions )

my english not good sorry about that

Thanks. The common factor then in both reports of this bug is that nouveau is in use. And historically, this isn't surprising. Nouveau has occasionally had such missing textures bugs like this over the years.

Please try installing the Nvidia proprietary driver if you haven't already:

  sudo apt install nvidia-driver-390

Another fix which may be required at the same time, or as an alternative is to tell gdm3 to not try to use Wayland. You can do that by editing /etc/gdm3/custom.conf and uncommenting:

  #WaylandEnable=false

WaylandEnable=false solved my problem. Thank you.
Ubuntu 18.04 using default xorg, why gdm using wayland?
Will you set gdm default xorg?

Daniel van Vugt (vanvugt) wrote :

The problem may not be Wayland as much as forcing X allows the Nvidia driver to work and avoids Nouveau and its bugs.

It's too late to consider changing the default. We have only 2 days to final freeze.

Well using nvidia proprietary driver is solving for me (nothing changed in gdm3 custum.conf).

I switched to the nouveau driver when, a couple on month ago, nvidia driver stop working with the new linux kernel version. But it seems they have some other issue at now (i just filed a new bug report :D). This is a never end story.

Thx!

Thank you for information. nvidia-driver-390 driver have problems too, i hope you can fix before the 18.04 final release. (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-390/+bug/1762200)
Last question; mutter 3.28.1 not released when it will release and will you put in 18.04? (maybe bug 1762200 about mutter)

Also, if anyone can reproduce the problem again, do you find nouveau errors in your kernel log around the time of the missing rendering?

Run 'dmesg' to see it all.
