When opening Google Maps, i got a completely black tab instead - see the attached image.

i forgot to mention that turning off the "hardware acceleration" in chrome -> Settings -> System, makes the bug disappear.

Utopic works it seems, testing trusty with xorg-edgers works too, so it's very likely a bug that's been fixed in 10.2.5.

Fixed in mesa 10.2.5 as per comment #7, which is in Ubuntu since 16.04.
Ubuntu 14.04 still has mesa 10.1.3, and there mesa was last updated over 7 years ago.
