Bug Description

I don't know further details about the issue. This problem was detected by Ubuntu.

However, I've been having tons of problems with graphics, especially Unity Dash, for a couple of months now. Bringing up Unity Dash in 12.04 would scramble all the icons in Unity Panel and the dash as well. Playing videos often causes crashes after seeming to struggle for a while to play the video.

I decided to update to Ubuntu 12.10 alpha3 for better graphics, but Unity Dash is unusable - flashing all the time and still scrambling all the icons. I used Ubuntu Tweak to set the Dash to the smaller desktop size (I'm actually using a desktop computer but viewing it on my widescreen TV). Using the smaller Dash stops the flickering most of the time, and the newer graphics don't seem to have anymore trouble playing videos, but there are still random crashes.

This particular "crash" being reported here didn't appear to cause any issues though. The crashes I'm talking about aren't reportable because the computer freezes, not even responding to ctrl-alt-f1 or ctrl-alt-backspace, so that I have to use hardware to reboot.

Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate a useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

outdated debug symbol package for initscripts: package version 2.88dsf-13.10ubuntu13 dbgsym version 2.88dsf-13.10ubuntu11.1
outdated debug symbol package for module-init-tools: package version 3.16-1ubuntu3 dbgsym version 3.16-1ubuntu2

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

I don't understand how to upgrade to anything newer than what I have. This is the alpha3 version of Ubuntu 12.10, and I've also added the Precise version of the getdeb repositories in order to get some more up to date versions of some software I use. According to aptitude, the only package not up to the latest is a version of gnucash that I can't install because it requires libaqbanking which is for some reason not in the repositories anymore.

What can I do to get even more up-to-date packages?

(note that ever since installing Ubuntu 12.10, the following packages cannot be configured:

update-notifier-common
 flashplugin-installer
 update-notifier
 ubuntu-desktop

But, everything except flashplugin seems to work and I can still watch flash video in Google Chrome.)
