Bug Description

64bit Ubuntu 11.10 system that was reinstalled over an older 11.04 32bit system. Root filesystem is on /dev/sda5 and other file systems are in LVM from previous system. Mounts /dev/mapper/vg20111007-home from LVM, there exists an old vg20111007-root32bit volume that is not mounted (used to be the root filesystem under 32bit life).

During upgrade of the 64bit 11.10 to 12.04 upgrade, some of scripts seem to find the unmounted vg20111007-root32bit volume and believe that this is the root filesystem that needs upgrading, they then hang and nothing proceeds until after an hour or two when I kill the upgrade process.
