Horizontal scrolling is very slow

On long lines, horizontal scrolling gets progressively slower and slower the further the viewport is scrolled to the right. This is reproducible by using the text cursor, and by using the scroll bars.

which version are you using?
how long does the line have to be?
I tested with a 1000 character line and noticed no slowdown and cpu usage never went over 50% (though that is quite high for scrolling)

I'm using 1.5.3.
It takes about a second to scroll once at the 600-character mark of a 1351-character line. Scrolling all the way to the end by pressing the End key takes about 2 seconds, whereas when pressing Home from the end of the line is almost instantaneous. Holding the Right arrow on my keyboard in the middle of a long line freezes Meld.

files with a single 2000 character line works fine here
