much slower than svn to get the diffs

Binary package hint: meld

I have an svn checkout directory with some local modifications. "svn di" on the command line shows me all the differences quite quickly. However when I load this directory in meld it takes an order of magnitude longer while it scans the directory. It should be as quick as svn to do the same thing
