Opening any file with meld causes the program to lockup

Bug Description
To reproduce bug: Launch Meld, click "New", choose an original file, the open dialog will freeze and the application will lockup as soon as a file has been selected.

I was hoping that since the current version in breezy is basically broken that this would be a candidate for an update, or at least a backport.
