Bug Description

Binary package hint: mediawiki1.7

After installing the version 1.7.1-9, i went to localhost/mediawiki, completed the forms and then, i had a "403 Forbidden" message. The /var/lib/mediawiki1.7/ access permisson were 640. I did a "chmod +x" and the site works well. But i'm not sure it's perfect thinking of security...

It's root - root who owns the files. I suppose it might be www-data, no ?

Right, you want the files to have the least priviledges possible. Check the mediawiki documenation to see if it says who should own the files and what the permissions should be.

According to http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Installation#Troubleshooting owner should be apache-apache (i suppose it's www-data on Ubuntu/Debian) and rights should be 755
