Bug Description

Media Hub only supports a video backend for android (libhybris). There doesn't seem to be support for running on an Ubuntu Classic or Ubuntu Personal (i.e. deb or snaps).

the short term fix for this is to not use media-hub. Video plays well on desktop if qtubuntu-media is not installed and gstreamer1.0-libav is installed. I believe unity8 snap has already made these changes and mediaplayer-app works

Just FYI, starting on the planning work to do the media-hub video integration for desktop now.

Bill, you are right that the unity8 snap has made those changes. I haven't tested video working since the change (still working on just getting audio OK). But no media-hub in image right now.

I assume we eventually want it back though.

@Michael: we absolutely do want it back, this is just a temporary measure to keep things moving forward.
