Bug Description

hi,

just installed me-tv from dev-ppa on a 64bit ubuntu 12.04

workflow:
- i do start me-tv-client from cli
- app gui shows up
- menu - view -channels - import - select channels.conf from /usr/share/dvb/dvb-t/*
- oress button next

what happens:
- nothing. - no errors - no progress - no output in cli

what do i expect:
- start scan & importing channels

Please tell me if i can add any additional information which might be relevant.

Greetings

The best way to have a working channels.conf is to generate one with w-scan.

The file must be in UTF-8.

Cheers,
Fred

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

Changed in me-tv (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed

This is a known bug in me-tv.

The documentation for me-tv should be changed to mention the above workaround for generating "channels.conf", i.e. install the "w-scan" package, and use the command "w_scan" (notice the name of the command, rather ridiculously, has an underscore, unlike the name of the package, which has a dash), and put a copy of the output in ~/.mplayer/channels.conf if you use mplayer, for example.

thanks for the feedback.

wasn't that fully working in earlier versions of me-tv?
Just wondering why it broke in the first place

Me-tv 1.4.0 don't have a scan module. You have to generate a channels.conf
with w-scan then import it in me-tv.

The point is w-scan / w_scan is not mentioned in the me-tv documentation, and this is causing serious confusion for the users. It needs to be mentioned somewhere in the docs for me-tv.

since i jumped back & forth between stable builds and those via the dev ppa i am stuck with a non-working me-tv setup now anyways. I solved that for me by jumping to kaffeine which is ok as well.

apart from that:
wasnt earlier versions of me-tv able to scan and even pointed directly to existing channel-files for each country which the dev-builds havent for me? So basically i never needed to create a channel file with 1.2.x versions iirc - the current stage seems less user- friendly but i might mix things up here.

anyways - i would agree to bobo that the docs could mention w-scan as it might help other users for the future.

Best regards
fidel
