When one opens a Find/Replace dialog, it shows up maximized and there appears to be no way to change the size. It makes the Find/Replace dialog useless because one can't see ANY of the document one is searching.
This is probably a hardware problem because the computer being used is an Averatec N1000 series netbook which has a smaller screen. 10.2" is the claim from Averatec.
Uses a Mobile Intel945GMS Express Chipset.

You can unmaximize the dialog double-clicking it's title bar. Or with right click>unmaximize.
It's not a hardware problem. It is a feature of Ubuntu netbook remix.
I agree that this dialog might be more useful unmaximized. But I don't know if it is possible to do an exception for only one dialog. Anyway, you should add another bug/feature request/question explaining this.
