Bug Description

I've recently installed Ubuntu MATE 16.04 on my laptop Dell Latitude D520. So far everything is working very well apart from setting the screen brightness. I was using Ubuntu 12.04 before and I could change the screen brightness.

I tried these kernel parameters: "acpi_backlight=vendor", "video.use_native_backlight=1" and "acpi_osi=Linux" but none worked.

The function keys are working, but the brightness is nut adjusting. I got a little flicker but nothing else happens. How can this be fixed or is it related to MATE Desktop. Other desktops like xfce, cinnamon etc. works as expected.

I had the same issue w/ the nvidia proprietary driver. Nouveau can change the screen brightness but will flicker while changing brightness until you also use the "acpi_backlight=vendor" parameter (or "acpi_backlight=none"

Before the changes setting brightness before logging in works smooth, afterwards not at all or with issues.
After the changes it doesn't work before logging in, but afterwards smoothly.
