Bug Description

Tried to play a song. Played it... sort of... and then mate-panel gave an error message.

Issue may be related to vlc media player.
Set VLC as preferred application for audio playback,
Went to play a .WAV file ripped from a CD.
This .WAV file was stored in a hardware RAID 1 of 3 TB capacity. This array is all formated BTRFS.
Upon clicking this music file two instances VLC began playing, the same file, sudibly out of synch.
Only one VLC instance had any GUI.
Closed the one with a gui by clicking quit.
The other instance presisted.
This daemon instance of VLC will continued playing for several seconds.
Then an error message popped up.
The GIU was still working for the duration.
I am not using compiz.

Hardware.
Asrock 970 Extreme 3 R2.0, latest BIOS-UEFI
AMD FX-6300, stock clock.
8GB low latency ddr3-1600 RAM
XFX Radeon R9 285A DD edition, down to stock clock
Samnsung 850 Pro 128GB
Aforemetioned RAID 1.
