Bug Description

Using xubuntu 18.04 daily, updated.

Was not doing anything special. Did try out some wrong syntaxes, to test the calculator. Then a crash. I assume because of the wrong syntax; but I don't think it should have crashed. I expected a "wrong" syntax message, or something like that.

Hello, please try and find the exact syntax to cause the crash so that there is a reliable way for the developers to reproduce this bug.

I can reliably reproduce this by
- starting mate-calc
- typing in 8*8
- press enter
- display shows 64
- on the calculator keyboard click: x2, square root sign
- press enter
- crash

(tried starting with 10x10; also results in crash)

Does this help?

I can't access this link but Monsta might be able to.
I can't immediately reproduce the bug using the sequence you've described on a Ubuntu MATE 18.04 Beta install in a VM.
How did you install mate-calc? (Did you install the whole mate-desktop?)

Wait, nevermind my previous. I missed the "square root sign" part or your steps.
Now that I have corrected this, I can indeed reproduce your crash.
This also affects Artful.

Just to be clear: I did not install mate-calc. It's part of the distro I am testing at the moment: Xubuntu 18.04. Should I warn the people over there as well? Or is that not necessary? (Sorry for asking, but I'm quite new to all this.)

Perhaps it's helpful to mention: a shorter sequence of actions does also lead to a crash:

- enter any digit (say 5)
- press enter (or click "=")
- press x2 (or the ctrl-2)
- press sqrt sign (or ctrl-r)
- press enter (or click "=")

The crash occurs without fail.
