Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

There was bug 1429725 for which I've just uploaded a fix in 10.0.17-0ubuntu1 which should be available in a few hours. That bug prevented installation, but not in the way that you describe.

Having fixed that bug, I was unable to reproduce your issue.

Please can you try 10.0.17-0ubuntu1 once it becomes available? If that works for you, please mark this bug Invalid. If it does not work for you, then please provide steps to reproduce your problem on a fresh Vivid system and then change the status of this bug to New. Thanks!

I have just tried to reinstall myself and I'm still unable to. Output below, not quite the same but thought it was better posted here that in another thread.

On apt-get remove, it just hangs on:

Removing mariadb-server (10.0.17-0ubuntu1) ...
Removing mariadb-client (10.0.17-0ubuntu1) ...
Setting up mariadb-server-10.0 (10.0.17-0ubuntu1) ...

Install output:

jake@jake-ThinkPad-T410:~$ sudo apt-get install mariadb-client mariadb-server

After a bit of searching I did find this, however according to the MariaDB bug tracker this should be fixed. in 10.0.17 - not sure if this helps at all!

It seems to me that if you upgrade from trusty now, everything works fine. But if you tried an earlier update on version 10.0.16-2~exp1~ubuntu1 your kind of stuck and 10.0.17 doesn't fix the issue.

Can anyone confirm this?

I had tried an earlier version and can confirm that 10.0.17 doesnt fix the issue for me.

I will try again tonight to make sure.

Marking this as a duplicate of bug 1429725 for now, since it looks like it to me. From a report in that bug, there is a data migration for users who were affected by it. It seems like this is the issue you're having now?
