After updating from 19.10 to 20.04 mailnag doesn't start, the package was installed but no executables were found.

Checking the content of the packages shows not content other than manpages.

Confirmed here as well. I recreated the package using the stable Debian source files and installed the resulting deb file and everything works fine but I have had to apt hold the package. In case it is of use the deb file is attached

Probably debhelper's /usr/share/perl5/Debian/Debhelper/Buildsystem/python_distutils.pm regressed.... yet should not be used since at least 2013.

One should move mailnag to pybuild buildsystem provided by dh-python.

I'm not sure anybody will look into fixing python_distutils.pm buildsystem.

Accepted mailnag into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mailnag/1.2.1-1.1ubuntu2.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

@Mathew, why did you delete the debhelper component? It's still buggy when using disutils, it's deprecated but still supported and shouldn't generate empty debs as it did

python_distutils.pm isn't supported, so there isn't anything to fix in debhelper.

"Deprecate the python-distutils build system
and mark it as removed in compat 12. Users are recommeded to
migrate to the third-party build system called "pybuild". This
deprecation implies that python3 (among other) will not be
supported in the python-distutils build system."
