Bug Description

the command 'dpkg -L magnus' shows that magnus package contains an autostart entry (/etc/xdg/autostart/magnus-autostart.desktop) and is hence launched each time someone logs in as long as the package is installed (which is annoying if you do not need it on a daily basis).

* Uninstalling it will remove the package (and the autostart entry along with it) as a workaround.
* Of course one could also 'sudo rm' the file but it would come back with any magnus package update unless the bug is fixed in that update.

The autostart file uses a gsettings key - this will prevent the app running unless that key is enabled through a shortcut. This assumes you are running a gsettings enabled desktop environment like Mate, Budgie or GNOME-Shell.

Possibly there should be a "OnlyShowIn=Budgie;GNOME;Mate" type clause in the autostart file.

Suggest throw this to upstream to consider https://github.com/stuartlangridge/magnus

I think, removing Magus is a better option. Otherwise, the issue still persists as of 07/Jun/2021 while launching KDE plasma desktop.

I installed ubuntu-mate-desktop last night and can confirm Magnus loads at startup in KDE, my usual desktop, even though there is no autostart entry for it in ~/.config/autostart. I would look into how to disable that in MATE, but unfortunately that DE is unusable, as outlined in the forum link below (in short, the 3 folders I have load in Caja at startup cause a loop of endlessly loading instances of those folders, whereas in KDE and Gnome I only get 3 folders):

https://ubuntu-mate.community/t/ubuntu-mate-desktop-loads-hundreds-of-folders-after-install-keeps-going/24805/9

Since I can't find any mention of "magnus" in gsettings, I think the easiest way around this is to uninstall this app.

EDIT: I found that MATE stores its autostart entries in /etc/xdg/autostart instead of ~/.config/autostart, so one can delete magnus-autostart.desktop from there to stop it from loading at startup.
