Bug Description
Ubuntu release: Ubuntu 22.10 (Kinetic).
Version of the package: 3.0.7-4
Expected: me blasting some asteroids like it's 1994.
Happened: Crashes with the following error:
Fatal: Couldn't create staging surface: Parameter 'pitch' is invalid
i9-9900KF, 32GB of RAM, NVidia RTX 2080 Ti, Proprietary drivers v515

I can confirm I get the same error message when attempting to run maelstrom on Ubuntu 22.10. Furthermore, I was also able to reproduce the issue on Debian so I have forwarded the issue to the maintainer there (see attached bug watch)
