Bug Description

In raring, highbank has switched to using the "generic" kernel flavor. This will require some changes in MAAS - at least in maas-import-pxe-files.

[Impact]
In raring+ the arm kernel is armhf/generic instead of armhf/highbank. This means that maas needs to be able to also handle armhf/generic

[Test Case]
1. Install maas
2. maas-import-pxe-files
3. Check that armhf/generic kernel is downloaded.

[Regression Potential]
Minimal. It only allows armhf/highbank kernel to be downloaded and allow the tools to handle it.

One note to keep in mind - though the "generic" kernel may support other subarchitectures in the future, there will still need to be multiple kinds of boot files (vmlinuz vs. uImage - and perhaps even multiple uImages?) that will require us to retain some subarchitecture-specific knowledge.

I have been unable to use MAAS to construct an HPC cluster because of this bug. Does anyone know a work-around on this?

Downgraded to 12.04 for now and the problem is fixed - will look to upgrade back to 13.x when this issue is resolved. Thanks! :)

I managed to workaround this bug by:
1- adding "armhf/generic" to the list of the downloader architectures in /etc/maas/import_pxe_files
2- fixing the /usr/sbin/maas-import-pxe-files script so that it copes with "armhf/generic": http://paste.ubuntu.com/6213969/
3- running the fixed /usr/sbin/maas-import-pxe-files
3- "fixing" the directory layout by doing this: http://paste.ubuntu.com/6213976/

To be clear, generic was introduced in Raring.

Hello dann, or anyone else affected,

Accepted maas into saucy-proposed. The package will build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/maas/1.4+bzr1693+dfsg-0ubuntu2.2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance!
