failed to print via cups-pdf

LyX fails to print via cups-pdf printer.
Cups-pdf is used as system-default printer, printing from other applications like openoffice works just fine.
Ubuntu 9.10, Lyx 1.6.4

I'm having the same print / export problem with wine in lucid. I have m$ wordview installed in wine and have previously been able to print to pdf using the cups-pdf package in jaunty. But, in lucid, I have cups-pdf installed, but I do not get the print selection for pdf in the wordview print menu.

OK, I found a fix in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PDFPrinting?action=show&redirect=PrintToPDF that says it's necessary to create a ~/PDF directory. So, after doing that and "aptitude reinstall cups-pdf", now my wine program has the PDF printer option and it works.

So, I don't know if it's possible, but perhaps cups-pdf should be modified so it creates the directory in all users homes.

MSU, can you test this fix too?

re-tested with ubuntu 10.04 x86_64:
- printing via firefox - fine
- printing via LyX - failed: no printer shown in print window
