Is hardy-backports enabled? You can check at System -> Administration -> Software Sources. Under the "Updates" tab, is "Unsupported updates (hardy-backports)" checked?

What is the output of the following command: apt-cache policy libqt4-core

This is most likely a duplicate of Bug 228067. If hardy-backports is NOT enabled and/or the version of libqt4-core is NOT 4.4.0-1ubuntu3~hardy1, then this bug report is NOT a duplicate of Bug 228067. Note that with Bug 228067, LyX will crash when opening any LyX document, including the help files.

If you have already created a ".crash" file, please specify the bug number of the new bug report.

I have backports enabled and I keep having this issue. I thinks that's also affecting debian.. It sucks, because I really use it to write a lot of reports and it is becoming unusable. To be able to open a file, I must delete my .lyx folder, and open the file. Just by closing and re-opening the window, it's already crashing again.. :\
