Bug Description
When viewing the output of a file in LyX (e.g. View PDF) lyx opens xdg-open which in turn opens the default viewer (e.g. evince). However, xdg-open isn't terminated properly, and remains zombie.
After asking in the lyx-devel mailing list, I understood that the xdg-open functionaility is provided by an Ubuntu patch (and is missing in the vanilla lyx).
After a while those zombie process can accumulate as it seems nobody ever reads their return value and terminates them.
Reported on Ubuntu 12.04 with LyX 2.0.2
