Bug Description

particularly in System and light themes

I tried to replicate this bug; but only had issues with "Light" theme where last digit of seconds was obscured; hh:mm:ss is my chosen format. I noticed updates available, so updated. "Light" now selected as my default, so I logged out to let updates effect my LXQt desktop.

NOTE: I cannot replicate the indicators disappearing off-screen; for me it's only clock becoming obscured

I'm now having issues with every theme EXCEPT "Light" (which was my default when I logged out). I'll explore this some more. (I'm suspicious there is a difference between Light & all other themes as far as clock-digit-space available). I have no issues with other indicators though

Opening LXQt Appearance (assuming theme is NOT Light [at login])

When I change LXQt theme to "Light" - last digit of clock is mostly obscured, but rest of themes will look okay (I have no issues with indicators disappearing off-screen).

If I logout with "Light" as default, on re-logging in I have issues with all themes EXCEPT light (in regards time; my first & last digit only partially visible using my hh:mm:ss format). If I logout with a non-Light theme default, i'll have issues only with "Light" LXQt theme.

Switching to HH:MM (removing seconds) and same results. I suspect there is an issue/clash with how time is defined?/themed? when compared to the other LXQt themes. I did not have any issues with other indicators except clock.

I assume that by default there are no problems?

On a 'live' system (x86, current daily image) by changing theme I can make part of clock disappear off bottom right of screen. I tried this on four machines (t43 [4:3], d610 [4:3], sl510 [ws] & dx6120 [4:3] being models referred to in my QA-testing; but note all have similar (low-med) resolution screens).

On a 'live' system using the default theme (if unchanged), there is no issue.

On the 'live' daily the clock is bottom right (all three tested), on my installed system (dx6120) there is a 'Show Desktop' widget bottom right to the right of the clock (which I do not see on 'live' at all). This could be what Roberto meant by "part indicators out of the screen", but by moving the mouse on 'live' systems it appears the clock is supposed to be bottom right (in my opinion).

Subjectively, it was more noticeable on laptops (t43, d610, sl510), and showed only on Light & System themes for all.

Note: my last two comments aren't complete - I could get part of clock disappearing using "System" (LXQt theme) without touching "light"

Ok, default's good. Yay. So now the blame isn't really on Lubuntu Artwork, but on the themes that are problematic. Do I understand that the two problematic themes are "System" and "Light" LXQt themes but there is no problem with "Ambience," "Dark," "Frost," or "Kde-plasma?"

Yep - I had no issues with ambience, dark, frost or kde-plasma (or lubuntu-arc).

Issue is most noticeable with "Light".

If they (system or light) are chosen, you can logout & log back in (installed & live) and no issues are evident. The issue is very minimal (being unable to read all the clock) and shows up primarily after changing the theme (new users & esp. reviewers).

I get the feeling that you're about to `rm` light & system from ISO; if so I'd suggest leaving it there, unless themes can be easily added. But in the end it's for those who do the work to decide; which isn't me :)

(in my last comment, all three tested should have been all *four* tested)

Well and it's remarkable that the problems are not permanent.

"System" is from lxqt-system-theme.
"Lubuntu Arc" is from lubuntu-artwork.
"Light" is from lxqt-themes, along with all the others.

That said, we'll probably leave them but file them against these and work to get upstream fixes. Can I get screenshots?

affects: lubuntu-artwork → lxqt-themes (Ubuntu)

One other thing: lxqt-themes and lxqt-system-theme are both from the source package lxqt-themes.

In getting the screenshots - i changed from HH:MM to HH:MM:SS and noted the clock corrected itself!

Hopefully the screenshots will show here -

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/16V2FXPnlknctgHxbQKaSAuSVyVNBh26Q?usp=sharing

by default oogle-drive sorted by name, the photos made more sense in time order..

Sorry I changed naming convention; but first column of list here is order..
And you'll need a decoder ring to read my explanation, so ensure you're wearing it :)

Ambiance was after a login, second screenshot 'light after a few' meant I'd selected a few themes then decided to start screenshots (errors showing)

When I get to "system_selected" - I logout, and second group start with "system2_"
"system2" starts with 'after login' & group ends when it's switched to 'light'
"light3" starts with 'after login' & continues to the _etc ones
(the _etc) group are still light3 [login/]session, but after HH:MM changed to HH:MM:SS which had the effect of logout/login

If you've got somewhere better for me to upload them (if wanted) - please let me know.
