I expected for the volume mixer, removable media manager, and the application menu to appear at the bottom of the screen where the panel is, but instead they opened up at the very top of the screen. The problem fixed itself after changing the screen resolution but would presumably also fix itself after rebooting the system.

confirmed, its an upstream bug. something has changed in the settings and the new panel handle the 'old' settings not gracefully. it would be nice if you forward this to https:/
workaround: pkill lxqt-panel; rm ${HOME}
