As mentioned further up:

Clean up the Panel
lxpanelctl restart

In xfce4-power-manager
Set "System Tray Icon" to the "Never Show Icon"

Then install the non default batter monitor

sudo apt-get install xfce4-battery-plugin

And add it to your panel
