Bug Description

Binary package hint: lxpanel

The keybord layout applet doesn't work well, as you can't add a new layout, and apparently didn't work at all for some cases.

It means that there is no easy way to switch keyboard layout on lxde and lubuntu.

Yeah, there's no "good" way to do it. But if you really need it - here's the thread about it.

I cannot add alternate keyboard layout in Lubuntu; this is a showstopper for me to move from legacy Ubuntu to Lubuntu. I need to switch between US and CZ keyboard layouts. I hope this missing feature could be added (fixed) in 12.04 LTS.

Annoying but indeed.

@ psl (slansky):

The following line will make you able to switch between US and CZ layout by using Alt+Shift:

setxkbmap -layout "us,cz" -option "grp:alt_shift_toggle"

You can add it to /etc/xdg/lxsession/Lubuntu/autostart for a system wide effect.

I updated yesterday from 11.10 to 12.04 devel.

The keyboard layout applet doesn't work properly. If I have several layouts and change from one to another, the layout doesn,t change despite the change of name in the keyboard applet icon.

Each time I click on the applet, it still shows the first layout although I have chosen the second one.

If I remove the standard french layout from the choices (and go from one bépo to a second bépo layout), the effective layout remains standard french!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Precise Pangolin. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. Please ensure that you are running the latest release of lxkeymap which is lxkeymap 0.7.99+dfsg-0ubuntu1

Just to confirmed it's a bug on the lxpanel applet, which is still broken. lxkeymap should be used for switching keyboard layout.

These are the versions of the packages :

lxpanel : 0.5.8+git20120212-0ubuntu3

lxkeymap : 0.7.99+dfsg-0ubuntu1

">setxbmap fr bepo" does fix the layout, the applet doesn't

I confirm that the problem happens on the live cd (build of yesterday).

setxkbmap -layout "us,cz" -option "grp:alt_shift_toggle"

works fine from Terminal, where should I put this line in regular Ubuntu ?
