Wired network applet: missing info when mousing over it

Lubuntu 13.10 daily 20130619 running from Oracle VM
Live session

Mouse over the wired network applet on Lubuntu 13.10 and there`s no info about the network.

Do the same on Lubuntu 12.04 and you`ll see some info about the wired network, such as its name.

Screen shots attached comparinng 12.04 vs 13.10.

lubuntu 12.04 lxpanel: wired network applet shows the name of the network, plus status active.

lubuntu 13.10 lxpanel: wired network applet shows nothing when mousing over it.

from Lubuntu 13.10 live session, the wired network is the only one that shows nothing.

volume applet says volume level.

battery says battery state.

clock shows week day and date.

power button says shutdown.

So the wired network is the only one not consistent with the other stock applets.

Is that expected?
