"reboot" from LXTerminal hangs at splash screen

Bug Description

When I select Logout->Reboot from the taskbar menu, my laptop reboots no problem. However, if I execute the command "reboot" from an LXTerminal console, the system goes through the reboot process but then hangs at the Lubuntu splash screen.
