Bug Description

lxc-start-ephemeral does not support any but the default backing store. If asked to base upon an lvm-backed container, it simply fails and hangs.

Note lxc-start-ephemeral should soon be a wrapper around the
python api bindings of the api clone command, which will mean
that lvm snapshotted ephemeral containers will come free.

lxc-start-ephemeral is deprecated. Please switch to lxc-copy which should support this.
