Bug Description

I tried to make a bootable USB stick with Unetbootin to install Lubuntu 12.04, but I get nowhere. I've used Unetbootin for installing other distributions before using the same computer, even earlier releases of Lubuntu. Whichever option I choose in the menu, it then leaves me with a black screen which disappears and reboots back to the same menu if I press a button. Endless loop.

Then I tried using usb-creato insteadr and the install worked fine, but when the installation was finished and it asked me to reboot, I got nowhere this time as well. At least this time I saw an ever-blinking underscore. Prior to the reboot I changed the boot order and removed the USB stick. Like I always do.

What's strange is that if I leave the USB stick I used for the install connected; I don't remove it or change the boot order, then Lubuntu boots properly and there I am with the fresh install. I can even make permanent changes which remains after reboot, but this is ONLY if I keep the USB stick connected. As you understand, this is not very comfortable, I don't want to have the USB stick connected for ever.

Thank you for a great distribution.

There's another guy having exactly the same problem, and another guy with similar problems when trying to install Xubuntu 12.04 with Live USB.

I don't know if this is a general problem or if it just applies to some computers, therefor I can't tell you how to verify. I downloaded the .iso, made a Live USB using usb-creator, ran the install and when it asked me to reboot I did and removed the USB stick. If you don't get stuck and can boot normally I guess the bug is not general.

thanks for your cooperation, what is the MD5sum of your iso?

also the guy on the forums is using the desktop CD.
I have also had problems using the desktop CD.

My feeling is that you are finding known bugs with usb-creator. I'm not going to mark this as a duplicate of those bugs, that would be premature.

But if you download the alternate cd, and install with unetbootin, I think you could manage to install lubuntu
