Thanks for the report, it's not a bug in (L)Ubuntu, you need to import the correct archive signing keys with "apt-key". You should ask the openprinting.org maintainers to put it somewhere on their webpage.

I disagree that this is not a bug. The repository was installed by Ubuntu software when I was installing a printer, not by me. When it installed it put a key in, but it put in an invalid key. If Ubuntu is going to enable these things, it should do it with a proper key not a bad key.

Also, fixing this so it isn't a problem for others should be as simple as a quick key swap in the software if that's all I have to do to fix it.

Anyone know which key is the right key?

It seems that the problem isn't with the key, but the repository name.

Edit the file /etc/apt/sources.list and change:

deb http://www.openprinting.org/download...driver/debian/ lsb3.1 gutenprint

to this:

deb http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/debian/ lsb3.2 main

it's a ubuntu bug, coz' if you add a new printer and say yes to the gutenprint ubuntu tries to install it but fails and the printer setup hangs (due the bug descripted above)..

I agree with flickerfly - this completely broke installing my Xerox Phaser 3250 printer on Xubuntu. The gutenprint installation pop-up just sat there and with ps I saw two dpkg <defunct> processes sitting there forever.

If this can't be fixed in the 13.10 release, a work-around should be published so at least a solution can be found by googling.

Oh, and the fix in #5 worked for me too on Xubuntu 13.10.

Still the same problem on Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty):
W: GPG error: http://www.openprinting.org lsb3.2 Release: The following signatures were invalid: BADSIG 24CBF5474CFD1E2F OpenPrinting (OpenPrinting Key) <email address hidden>

/etc/apt/sources.list contains already:
deb http://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/debian/ lsb3.2 main

Yes, I can confirm this on 14.04 too.

W: GPG-virhe: http://www.openprinting.org lsb3.2 Release: Seuraavat allekirjoitukset eivät olleet kelvollisia: BADSIG 24CBF5474CFD1E2F OpenPrinting (OpenPrinting Key) <email address hidden>

Same happens with:
deb http://www.openprinting.org/download/printerdriver/debian/ lsb3.2 main

and

deb http://www.openpringting.org/download/printerdrier/debian/lsb3.2 contrib

Refreshing key from ubuntu keyserver makes no difference.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running only once:

and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
