Volume Control Multimedia Buttons not mapped

Bug Description

In Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, the Volume control multimedia buttons were mapped correctly, and the global soundcard volume could be controlled using them. In Lubuntu 13.04 Beta 2, this is not the case.

When using the buttons now, there are no changes to application or system volume, although the skip forward, skip backwards and play buttons _are_ mapped correctly, and are able to control, for example the Rhythmbox music player.

Please let me know if there's a package or configuration I can add to map the Volume buttons correctly. I'm intrigued to know what package contains these extra features, which exists in Ubuntu but not in Lubuntu.

I think this may be related to my using Compiz, as there is a configuration file which seems to map many of these at...

~/.config/openbox/lubuntu-rc.xml

Which means that the handling of many of these shortcuts is going to depend on the openbox window manager running.

However, surprisingly I found that running...

openbox-lubuntu

...although it replaces Compiz as the window manager, the shortcuts indicated in this config file are still not honoured.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running only once:
apport-collect <bug #>

and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
