Bug Description
On a number of applications there is a black background. This makes some windows unreadable.
I tried experimenting with Kernel Mode Setting to see if this made a difference. Initially I thought it did, but it seems there is a random element to the black background with crash notification windows and it doesn't always show. So in fact, KMS makes no difference to the black background. With Abiword you always get a black background (part of it is blue with KMS on).
With KMS I get a new problem - a yellow window title with a lot of applications.
When I installed using the live CD I changed the theme to crux. This made the ubiquity window readable.

Regarding the duplicate - you beat me to it! I didn't realise so many others were still having problems with the black background. I thought it had been fixed for the majority of users. I checked the qa tracker for the beta builds and there was no mention of bug 938472.
I forgot to say the yellow title window is pretty much on every window (except lxterminal). Even firefox. I don't know if this is a different problem to the black background?
