Trying to selectively pick the kernel patches from Yakkety on top of the Xenial version is rather hard as some things are covered by the upstream version change (4.5 compat) and also rely on other rework. Backporting the complete package appears like the more stable and simple path.

Stefan Bader (smb) wrote :

Looks like yakkety has a version of that in proposed that probably needs release first.

Stefan Bader (smb) wrote :

The backport into Xenial compiles 4.4 and 4.8 kernels and both kernel versions run the smoke test from bug #11285881 successfully.

Sorry cur and paste error: the correct bug reference is bug #1625072.
