Configuring environment settings fail

Bug #58634 reported by Matti Lindell

Bug Description

Edgy Knot2
Version: 0.9.4.1

Selecting any of the "Environment settings that should override the default locale:" from localeconf configuration doesn't seem to make any difference. These LC_* settings should be written to /etc/environment file (inside ### BEGIN DEBCONF SECTION FOR localeconf tags).

Only LANG setting is written in /etc/environment, but LC settings aren't.

Steps to reproduce:
$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure localeconf
Manage locale configuration files with debconf? --> Yes
Default system locale: --> en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8
Environment settings that should override the default locale: --> Select any or all the options

I confirm this. Locale handling via localeconf is buggy.

A can confirm this bug, no matter what i select in locale configuration, it doesn't change anything.

Changed in localeconf:
assignee: nobody → keidson
status: Unconfirmed → Confirmed

I just found out that altough
# dpkg-reconfigure localeconf
writes a variable LANF in /etc/environment ,
the shell uses the LANG definition that exists in /etc/default/locale
So, maybe localeconf shoud be writing into /etc/default/locale instead of /etc/environment?
( I'm using an updated edgy install )
